Nevados de Chillan is officially open, and with fresh snow we're off to a great start to the season! We're also really excited that we managed to get our new projects finished too. It was a huge amount of work, but we got it all done, just in time!

First up, we created our very own beginners ski slope where we can give basic lessons before folks head up to the top of the hill for proper skiing. We also finished four brand new cabins and renovated two of our older cabins, so we now have 14 lovely cabins. And the biggest project was our new Cafe Los Andes (or "Stubucks", as it's affectionately known!), which is open to the public. We're hoping that people will find this a great place to chill out with a coffee and a snack, while checking their email with our free WiFi. I'll post some photos of the new facilities shortly.

We have our first snow cover today!

It rained all day yesterday in Las Trancas, and this morning I woke up to the wonderful site of snow covered mountains :-)

We can confirm today that we will be building 4 brand new cabins for this winter, (2009)!

Great news for Cabañas Los Andes and Las Trancas as the valley fills up every July and August, and people are turned away due to lack of cabins in the area.

Our cabins will be 6 people sleepers with the usual home comforts like cable T.V, DVD players, fully equipped kitchens, etc.

We hope to have the cabins ready to rent when the ski resort opens, mid June.

As yet there is no word on when they might open. We have had a long dry summer and rain is well overdue.

We will keep you all posted with the first snow fall and any news on an opening date for the ski station.

We finally have some updated photos of the new cabins........

As you can see from my last posting, on 30th April, it was confirmed we would build 4 new cabins.

So only a month later this is what they are looking like...........

 

  

 

It´s been a race to get everything done before the rain and snow arrive.
So far it´s been a very dry start to the winter. In May we had only a few days of rain.

On the good side it has given us time to make sure all the cabins are perfect.

In parallel to building the cabins we are transforming our old "breakfast" & "Lounge" area upstairs.

We have taken on a large project to turn it into a public café/bar. We are very excited about this as it will give Las Trancas a well needed "Cafe/bar" by day, and "Pub" by night.

Our cafe/bar (yet to be named) will offer hot snacks and drinks all day and night.
In the evening you´ll be able to discuss your days skiing over a cold beer or Chilean wine.

We are really looking forward to having it up and running!
